Today, Kiwi and I went to the student dental clinic at OSU. We spent about 3 hours there being seen, a little extra time added for just waiting.
It was uncomfortable, but necessary, I assume. Personally, I have periodontal disease. My perio consult (together with Kiwi's) will be scheduled on September 5, Friday in the morning. Then we will both see our separate student dentist in the afternoon. It's really nice that they try to schedule us together.
I have very little plaque/tartar. Dentist says the brushing really shows. And just flossing once a day is enough as well.
Kiwi needs periodontal work, and 2 fillings, and 2 crowns. The crowns are estimated to cost $450 each. DEAR GOD! The fillings are manageable - cheaper than Columbus Public Health anyway.

Cabs Weekend
On Friday, Kiwi and I picked up our car from CarMax in the evening, had dinner, and then went to the CABS meeting.
We had fun, played different games:-
Betrayal at House on the Hill - with Vincent, Michael, Jessie and Matt
Duck Duck Go - with Michael, Wendy, Nick, and someone else I can't remember off-hand
Xanth - with Wendy and Nick
We borrowed two games - Guatemala Cafe and PowerGrid, neither of which we had time for up til now.
On Sunday, Michael came over to our house and played 3 games of Catan. THREE!! It's a new game to him and he always wanted to try it and I'm glad we taught it to him. It's definitely more enjoyable playing with more than just 2 people, and extremely enjoyable playing with the right group of people.

Cost of vehicle insurance expected to rise
Kiwi had a minor accident with the van today. He was at the library parking lot, and when he pulled out of his spot, he scraped against a car.
He said yes, he did hit it, but says no, it's not his fault because the car was not properly parked.
And yes, he took photos. The other car was very poorly parked. Its tires were covering the yellow line that marks out the parking spaces.
Well, I dunno, but whatever happens, I expect our insurance premiums to go up. Just a few weeks ago, I was thinking (not out loud, because that would jinx it), that come June 2009, our 3 year driving record would be accident free again and MAYBE our insurance premium would go down. HAH.

no more NTB, no more Budget Rental
Last Saturday, I took the car to NTB. For a routine oil change, and I also wanted the alignment to be adjusted because Kiwi said it was pulling a little to the left.
So I left it there while Kiwi and I ran some errands. An hour later, we get a message that a whole bunch of stuff with my car is all fucked up, it needs to be fixed to be able to fix the alignment.
I copied down the list of 5 items, and got a quote of about $2100. If we couldn't afford that, the minimum we needed to do was about $800.
I thought about it for awhile, and just took the car home. On Tuesday, I took the car to CarMax because when I purchased the car from them in May 2006, I had also purchased a 3 year warranty. So after waiting for 2 hours there, I was told that only 1 item out of the list needed to be done. And it would be covered by my warranty, I only need to pay my $50 deductible.
I'm driving a rental right now (warranty covers a $25.00/day rental vehicle). CarMax used to work with Speedy, or was it Thrifty Car Rental, on Morse Road at the Dennis dealership. The process there was fast and painless.
This time however, it was Budget. They wanted my credit card to hold $100 on it. And I would have to pay a fuel surcharge of $14.00. Unless I travelled less than 75 miles AND filled up the tank and showed a receipt for it. No such thing as peeking at the fuel meter and be good to go.
*eye roll*
Ridiculous money grubbing policies. However, I have to say that the employees are extremely polite. Very good personal customer service. Just lousy company policies. No reason to be nasty to people for things that they did not dictate.
However, I did call to CarMax and expressed my opinion that I did not like Budget, I preferred the previous rental company. Maybe if enough people complained, they would switch back. MAYBE.

Akai Hana
Last night, we went out for dinner. Just because. No special occasion.
We went to this Japanese restaurant near Kenny/Henderson that was pretty pricey (for our standards) but I knew that we would enjoy the food. And sure enough, we did.
We had bulgogi, shrimp tempura rolls, spicy scallop rolls, soft shell crab tempura, squid legs tempura, shiitake tempura, agedashi tofu, grilled shishamo, rice, miso soup, and kimchi.
YUM.
The leftovers made enough for 2 more meals by myself. BURP!
Kiwi liked the sushi rolls. I am very happy about it. The last time he had sushi roll, it was at the Japan-Oriental restaurant on High Street. And one piece of the shrimp tempura roll made his throat clench up, and not in a good way. This time he enjoyed both rolls, and really really liked the spicy scallop rolls. Which was good, because the mayo on the scallop rolls was making MY throat clench up.

Stupid Car
Today I brought my car to NTB to get an oil change, and Kiwi asked me to also have the alignment done, because it was pulling to the left a little.
So later we get a phone call from the manager at NTB, saying that the car needed to be fixed, et cetera, before the alignment can even be done. He quoted that to fix it all up would cost about $2150. Bare minimum would be $800. I don't think so.
So we took the car back (it did get an oil change at least). When monday rolls around, I'm going to call CarMax and check if whatever is needed to be done will be included in our MaxCare warranty program. If not, we'll take it to Kiwi's favourite auto repair shop on Sinclair Road and have them fix it.
BAH.
I've said this many times, and I'll repeat myself again. No more Ford vehicles !!

Less games
I've stopped myself from playing Tribal Wars. I was doing pretty okay, but the game was running so slowly. It seemed that I was spending way too much time on it and not getting much done at all. And I wanted to stop "wasting" time on it.
Universe Wars has pretty much lost its appeal for me, in terms of gameplay. I like the social aspect of it. I met alot of new people online, and had alot of fun chatting. But the "war" part of it got boring.

4th Anniversary + State Fair
It was Kiwi's and my 4th wedding anniversary on Friday.
We woke up in the late morning because Kiwi took the day off to go to an afternoon medical appointment.
First we had lunch. Dim sum at a little chinese place on Olentangy River Road opposite Union Cemetary. It was pretty good food and one of the cheapest dim sum places locally (that we can find).
Next we went to the VA medical center and Kiwi did his thing.
Then we ran some little errands - bank, library, post office.
Finally it was up north to CABS, and home again at 3am Saturday.
******
It usually takes me awhile (3 or more hours) to wind down enough to want to sleep after a CABS session. Kiwi went to sleep almost immediately after reaching home. I got to bed about sunrise. Woke up with this annoying beeping at around 1pm. Our security system malfunctioned. This usually happens once a year.
Puttered around doing chores and et cetera, Kiwi finally woke up about 5.30pm. We played a game - Thurn and Taxis. He ate dinner. We played another game - Vikings. I ate dinner.
Then he watched TV while I did my own thing again.
******
Woke up early-ish Sunday morning. I ate, then I woke Kiwi up and he ate, and we went to the State Fair. $6 ticket for me from Kroger, Kiwi had free entry for the day - veteran's status.
Walked around, looked at stuff. Bought over-priced food. He had a foot long corn dog. We shared a funnel cake topped with apples. We both ate an ear of roasted corn. I thought mine was rather raw still, but it tasted really good dripping with butter. I bought some pretty hair clips, some Avon lip balm, whilst Kiwi bought 2 packages of jerky.
Wallet damage:
ticket 6
corn dog 4.50
funnel cake 5
corn 10
hair clips 5.50
lip balm 5
jerky 36.50
total $72.50
I checked my other blog for my expenditure from last year's fair. It was $32 for fair food. I think we might have spent money on stuff last year, but I guess I neglected to note it down. This time it went up, because we bought STUFF.
